Penina's screenplay to our life movie.
Begin scene.
The camera zooms in to three teenagers standing on a balcony together on a cold, autumn night. A girl pushes her glasses up the bridge of her nose, while the another moves her head to the side to keep her hair out of her eyes. The boy stands with his hand on his hip and holds a cigarette to his lips. The city is silent and so are they, as they take in the view from where they are standing.
Two smoke their cigarettes and watch the embers burn at their fingertips, while the streetlights line the street cast a yellow glow to the smoke coming out of their mouths. The third person looks at the patterns her breath makes in the air. There are shots of blinking eyes, tucking hair behind ears, biting lips. When the cigarettes are flicked from the balcony into the gutter of the street below, they put their arms around each other and stare at the glittering of the city lights surrounding them.
They are living three different lives, thinking a million different thoughts... but as soon as the radio begins to play from the stereo behind them, they fall silent and come together for just one moment.
"Cover up
Wrap your wrists in gauze
Fill your heart with cause
If it's real or not, no
Cover up
Wrap your wrists in gauze
Fill your heart with cause
If it's real or not, no...
The colors fading into nothing
The lines are blurring and escaping
I can't breath alone
You know, you know
The better part of me is stolen
Whenever you go..."
The camera pans out from the three of their faces and slowly rotates to the view of the city they are gazing upon. Airplanes fly across the black expanse of sky above their bustling town, ambulances shoot down the highway with lights flashing, and the blazing lights of the local mall light up the skyline.
Fade to black.
